Biocarbon granules: Exchange with Gardena OEM Manufacturing
Carbonaut Torsten Becker visited the Gardena Manufacturing GmbH business unit OEM / EPB in the plastics injection molding plant Heuchlingen as part of the project "Biocarbon granules as a substitute for petroleum-based products". Here, in addition to the well-known products from Gardena, OEM products of world-famous brands are manufactured to the highest technical standards. Matthias Honeck rates the project of a conventional, synthetic, biogenic and CO2-lowering, thermoplastic granulate as revolutionary for the industry and perfectly suited to the aspirations of many companies. "I'm fascinated by the almost crazy idea that the green section of a hobby gardener is carbonized by the carbonauten, the biocarbon is the basis of an injection molding granulate, from which a hedge trimmer housing is made, with which the hobby gardener produces his green section. And after use, the housing moves with him through the compost into the soil, where it in turn permanently promotes plant growth - and stores CO2! Simply great, such a radical approach has not existed yet, that took the plastics world!"

Federal Minister Peter Altmaier meets the carbonauts
Following his appearance at the New Year's Reception of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Konstanz, Federal Minister of Economics and Energy Peter Altmaier especially took some time to get an impression of the carbonaut system. INTERREG project with Luxembourg partner

Strategic investor and state BW are getting involved

He assigned the head of the Science Park with the maximum support for the establishment of "carbonauten China", such as the provision of premises and production areas, assistance in finding investors and marketing the end products. It is planned that production of biocarbons will start in 2019.
Development of biokoks from waste wood

The aim is to use carbonized waste wood and other components to develop a biokok that meets the high requirements of coke for blast furnaces. The cupola furnaces of ROCKWOOL, the world market leader for mineral insulating materials, are characterized by high pressures, high static loads and enormous temperatures of over 1,400 degrees. So far, only fossil coke is suitable. That's what ROCKWOOL and the carbonauts want to change. In addition, on-site production could introduce the excess waste heat into the cupola furnaces, which in turn reduces the demand for natural gas and thus CO2. If the biococ meets all requirements, the expansion to the worldwide locations is planned.
Indonesian Consul General supports the carbonautics initiative
Sumatra, Java and Borneo are the known islands of the fourth-most populous state in the world, with 255 million inhabitants. In the land endowed with great natural wealth, large parts of the population are poor. For Carbonaut Michael Sernatinger, the successful visit was the perfect preparation for his one-month AHK trip abroad to Indonesia in the spring. The goal is the realization of a site as soon as possible and expansion into the various regions of the island state.
Start of the realization of the site "carbonauten Eberswalde"
The first German location is realized north of Berlin in Eberswalder. For this purpose, an ideally suitable hall with 3,000 square meters and an outdoor area with an optional 15,000 square meters are available on the site of the former rolling mill. At the end of 2019, the first production module with a capacity of 1,600 t of biocarbons and a thermal energy surplus of 8,000 MWh / a will commence operations. Production modules 2 and 3 will follow shortly thereafter, so that the full operating capacity in 2020 with 4,800 t of biocarbon and thermal 24,000 MWh / a will be achieved.
The Eberswalde site serves as a model farm. Excellent is also the proximity to the HNE "University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde".

Development cooperation with the University of Hohenheim
The carbonauten and the University of Hohenheim will cooperate closely in the development of biocarbons in the future. The head of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Prof. Dr. med.
