The framework agreement with the University of Hohenheim has been signed
The cooperation between carbonauten and the Institute of Agricultural Engineering of the University of Hohenheim is contractually sealed. Mrs. Prof. dr. Andrea Kruse and her team are among the world's leading institutes in the research, development and application of biocarbons. A special feature in comparison to other facilities is that the developments from the laboratory are then scaled up in practice via the company's own test facilities. The carbonauts see themselves as drivers for new applications and converters in industrial production. "It is impressive what degree of innovation the University of Hohenheim possesses in this area and where everywhere biocarbons will make a significant ecological contribution in the future. Our job is to make these collaborative efforts economically attractive, decentralized and mass-produced. "
The first projects are a bio-carbon granulate to replace petroleum-based plastics as well as a process that can be used to produce carbonated activated carbon at the sites.
Biocarbon granules: Exchange with Gardena OEM Manufacturing
Carbonaut Torsten Becker visited the Gardena Manufacturing GmbH business unit OEM / EPB in the plastics injection molding plant Heuchlingen as part of the project "Biocarbon granules as a substitute for petroleum-based products". Here, in addition to the well-known products from Gardena, OEM products of world-famous brands are manufactured to the highest technical standards. Matthias Honeck rates the project of a conventional, synthetic, biogenic and CO2-lowering, thermoplastic granulate as revolutionary for the industry and perfectly suited to the aspirations of many companies. "I'm fascinated by the almost crazy idea that the green section of a hobby gardener is carbonized by the carbonauten, the biocarbon is the basis of an injection molding granulate, from which a hedge trimmer housing is made, with which the hobby gardener produces his green section. And after use, the housing moves with him through the compost into the soil, where it in turn permanently promotes plant growth - and stores CO2! Simply great, such a radical approach has not existed yet, that took the plastics world!"
Matthias Honeck wants to support this project with words and deeds.
Federal Minister Peter Altmaier meets the carbonauts
Following his appearance at the New Year's Reception of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce Konstanz, Federal Minister of Economics and Energy Peter Altmaier especially took some time to get an impression of the carbonaut system. He became particularly attentive when the potential location Ensdorf near Saarbrücken and the application of biokoks for the neighboring steelworks Dillinger Hütte came up. Because this is equally Peter Altmaier's home and constituency.
The carbonauts are now invited by him to exchange views with the top level of the Ministry.
INTERREG project with Luxembourg partner
The Soil Concept S.A. based in Diekirch, Luxembourg, is a modern and up-and-coming waste management company that processes various biomasses and sludges. In particular, the potentials of sewage sludge for agriculture are investigated, energetically exploited and daruas developed new products.
During a visit on site, the carbonautas convinced themselves of their performance and innovative strength. Soil Concept has an explicit interest in the carbon-steel system at Diekirch. Together, new products are to be developed and disseminated with the support of the INTERREG programs.
Strategic investor and state BW are getting involved
“In order to boost the start-up dynamics significantly, we need a new risk culture. We therefore have to have the courage to break new ground in financing instruments too, "said Minister of Economic Affairs. Nicole Hoffmeister-Kraut on July 31, 2017 in Stuttgart.
The final participation in the "Cyber One Hightech Award 2018" of the state of Baden-Württemberg gives carbonautas exclusive access to the "BW Pre-Seed" as part of the "startup bw". Specifically, this means that in the round of financing 1 via a convertible loan a strategic investor from the edge of the Alb has entered. This program celebrates its premiere and is a significant step to make start-ups with high potential the implementation of the business model and attractive to investors.
At the beginning of 2019, the carbonauts founded a separate company "carbonauten Eberswalde GmbH" with the investor for the operation of the first plant in Eberswalde and the marketing of the biocarbon products. In case of success, the cooperation will be expanded through further locations.
High-tech region Yangzhou as a bridgehead to China
Yangzhou Province is located in the economically strongest region west of Shanghai. In particular, automotive and AI are located there in the "Yangzhou National High-tech Zone", including many German companies. Vice Governor Chen Jiang was in Germany with a high-level delegation to strengthen contacts and help companies move to China. Within this framework, EUROKO organized a meeting in Munich, where cooperation agreements were signed. Chen Jiang was very fond of the potential of biocarbons, as it can solve some environmental problems pragmatically in China. He assigned the head of the Science Park with the maximum support for the establishment of "carbonauten China", such as the provision of premises and production areas, assistance in finding investors and marketing the end products. It is planned that production of biocarbons will start in 2019.
Development of biokoks from waste wood
The Foundation 2 ° - German entrepreneurs for climate protection is a CEO initiative. The leaders identify with the goal of avoiding global warming by more than 2 degrees Celsius. Volker Christmann, Chairman of the Board of Management - DEUTSCHE ROCKWOOL GmbH & Co. KG has therefore immediately put the offer of carbonautics into action. The aim is to use carbonized waste wood and other components to develop a biokok that meets the high requirements of coke for blast furnaces. The cupola furnaces of ROCKWOOL, the world market leader for mineral insulating materials, are characterized by high pressures, high static loads and enormous temperatures of over 1,400 degrees. So far, only fossil coke is suitable. That's what ROCKWOOL and the carbonauts want to change. In addition, on-site production could introduce the excess waste heat into the cupola furnaces, which in turn reduces the demand for natural gas and thus CO2. If the biococ meets all requirements, the expansion to the worldwide locations is planned.
Indonesian Consul General supports the carbonautics initiative
Sumatra, Java and Borneo are the known islands of the fourth-most populous state in the world, with 255 million inhabitants. In the land endowed with great natural wealth, large parts of the population are poor. To improve this is the motivation of Carbonaut Michael Sernatinger, who got an appointment with Consul General Soetikno in Frankfurt over the Indonesian Husni Suwandhi, who has lived in Germany for a long time. They were accompanied by the German-Indonesian businesswoman Manjeet Gill, who looks after the poorest of the poor Fishermen and orphans and has very good contacts with politics and business. For the Consul General, sustainability has the highest priority in his country, as he personally developed the 17 SDGs of the UN. His interest in the carbonaut system was so great that two hours turned into four.
For Carbonaut Michael Sernatinger, the successful visit was the perfect preparation for his one-month AHK trip abroad to Indonesia in the spring. The goal is the realization of a site as soon as possible and expansion into the various regions of the island state.
Start of the realization of the site "carbonauten Eberswalde"
The first German location is realized north of Berlin in Eberswalder. For this purpose, an ideally suitable hall with 3,000 square meters and an outdoor area with an optional 15,000 square meters are available on the site of the former rolling mill. At the end of 2019, the first production module with a capacity of 1,600 t of biocarbons and a thermal energy surplus of 8,000 MWh / a will commence operations. Production modules 2 and 3 will follow shortly thereafter, so that the full operating capacity in 2020 with 4,800 t of biocarbon and thermal 24,000 MWh / a will be achieved.
The Eberswalde site serves as a model farm. Excellent is also the proximity to the HNE "University for Sustainable Development Eberswalde".
Forward-looking partnership with EUROKO for internationalization
Based in Heidenheim, EUROKO has for its business purpose the transfer of German companies and their know-how a. a. to advance to Asia. "The image of German companies and research institutions abroad is still excellent. We feel a great enthusiasm, especially from the Chinese, for quality from Germany. On the other hand, German companies and scientific institutes are looking for concrete, swift and uncomplicated partners who can not find them in their home countries. We deliberately use these two motives, "sums up Hansjörg Kopp, CEO of EUROKO. "With the carbonautos, we have an exceptionally innovative company in the environmental sector with the best prerequisites for the Asian market on board." Together with EUROKO, the carbonauts will be preparing to launch China in the coming weeks, with the concrete goal of creating an environmental center with research and production in the eco-showcase city of Huhzou near Shanghai, with a focus on packaging materials made of biocarbons from which the Chinese market is to be developed with EUROKO Torsten Becker justifies this step: "China is now our first choice for these projects We do not see any corresponding resonance for our innovations in Germany. "At the beginning of November, the joint project will initially be presented to Chinese authorities and then hold an investor conference in early 2019.
Finalists in the "Cyber One Hightech Award 2018" of the state of BW
Under 100 Start Up, the carbonauts ranked 3rd in the category "Life Science and Health Care". The award ceremony 20th took place on 26.09. in the context of the "Hightech Summit Baden-Württemberg" in front of more than 1,000 invited guests from politics and industry in the spectacular Rottweil power plant.
The carbonauts are the winners of the excellent contacts and concrete projects that emerged during each stage of the competition.
A special compliment goes to the organizers and creators of the bwcon, who carried out the event in a highly professional manner.
In addition, by taking part in the finals, the carbonauts receive approval for the BW Pre-Seed of the state of Baden-Württemberg, which reduces risks for start-up and investors alike and enables future options such as growth financing.
Development cooperation with the University of Hohenheim
The carbonauten and the University of Hohenheim will cooperate closely in the development of biocarbons in the future. The head of the Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Prof. Dr. med. Kruse, was enthusiastic about the overall concept and the technology, which she perceives as "forward-looking". The institute is the world leader in the field of biochars and has many years of experience in the development and application of biogenic materials such as a PEF film from the root extract of plants.
